Flash Compatibility

Google Chrome

A recent update to Google's web browser, Chrome, has changed the way Flash is supported for SCORM, AICC, and TinCan third-party courses. If you are experiencing issues with course playback, it is recommended that you update Chrome's permissions.

You can do so after you have navigated to your organization's Absorb portal. Once the site has loaded, you can use a single left click on the word, "Secure", which should appear before your URL. This will display a menu that looks similar to the one seen below.

From the options available click on, "Ask (default)", and select the, "Always allow on this site", option.

Updating this setting specifically for your organization's portal should allow the course to play as expected. Please open a ticket with Support if you have any questions, or require further troubleshooting.

Please Note: Flash support will be discontinued by all major browsers, and Adobe, by the end of 2020.

Other Browsers

Alternative browsers such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Edge have also begun to block Flash content by default. Much like Google Chrome, Learners will need to allow Flash playback on their computers if they wish to view content.

What Learners See

When Learners have Flash blocked in their browser, it may not be immediately apparent that the content is blocked, and may instead believe that the content is just not loading as expected. The screenshot below illustrates how a third-party course using Flash may look when the content is being blocked. We recommend viewing the documentation for your preferred browser on how to best determine if Flash content is blocked.

Mobile Device Alert

As a way to assist your Learners, you may want to enable the Mobile Device Alert toggle found in your course settings under the More tab.

With it enabled, Learners will receive a notification that the course may not be compatible with the device they are attempting to view the course content on. This message can be further updated in Translations (as found in the Setup menu), to aid Learners in troubleshooting potential issues they may have opening your third-party content. screenshot-2.png
