Absorb supports both manual and automated tax rates, which can be setup by System Admins under Portal Settings > Manage E-Commerce Settings > Tax Rates

Automated Tax Rates

We currently support automated taxes for the US, EU, and Canada. Our automated tax rates are based on the location of the user/learner who will receive the course, and include country, state/province, and city taxes.

To set up Automatic Tax Rates - Select the tax location by clicking the plus (+) to the right of the box.  The list contains economic zones (Canada, the EU & USA) that eCommerce can automatically calculate tax for when processing a customer purchase made by Credit Card or PayPal

Manual Tax Rates

Manual tax rates can be setup at a variety of different levels, which are all capable of stacking together. This allows even city level taxes to be setup in a straightforward fashion. Manual tax rates are also based on the location of the user/learner who will receive the course.

To set up manual tax rates, you will need to follow these steps:

  • Go to Tax Rates for Credit Card and PayPal Transactions and select Add Tax Rate to view the following options:
    • Type -  Select the type of tax from this drop-down list that will dharged on any items sold from your LMS. The types include: Global, Country, Region, Local, European Union.
    • Country --If you chose 'Country' as your tax type, then the country where your organization is located will be available for selection in the drop-down list.  
    • Province -If you chose 'Region' or 'Local' as your tax type, the the territorial area where your organization will be available for selection in the drop-down list.  
    • City --If you chose 'Local' as your tax type, then the municipal area where your organization is located will be available for selection in the drop-down list.  
    • Tax Rate - Add the numerical value here (in whole number format) to indicate the percentage of taxation that will be charged on any items sold from your LMS.
    • Tax Label - Add the taxation label that will be displayed to your customers, next to the amount of a particular tax charged on their purchase.

Note: If you are required to charge additional taxes on a customer's LMS purchase, you can add them by selecting the Add Tax Rate button directly underneath and repeating the process.

  • Tax Rates for Wire Transfers, Purchase Orders and Cheques
    • Country - Select the country from this drop-down list that represents the country that your organization is located in.
    • Tax Rate -Add the numerical value here (in whole number format) to indicate the percentage of taxation that will be charged on any items sold from your LMS.
    • Tax Label Add the taxation label that will be displayed to your customers, next to the amount of a particular tax charged on their purchase.
    • Add State or Provincial Tax Rate - Once you choose a country, the option to add state and provincial tax rates will only be displayed if you chose a country where you are required to charge regional taxes on a customer's LMS purchase.  When selecting this, you will need to add:
      • State/Province - Select the region chosen from this drop-down list that represents the territorial area where your organization is located.
      • Tax Rate -  Add the numerical value here (in whole number format) to indicate the percentage of taxation that will be charged on any items sold from your LMS.
      • Tax Label - Add the taxation label that will be displayed to your customers, next to the amount of a particular tax charged on their purchase.
      • Includes Country Tax - Select ON only if this is a tax situation where a national and regional tax are combined together in one tax charged at the territorial level.
