On September 4th 2012 at 12:00am Absorb LMS experienced a service outage that lasted roughly 8 hours.
What was affected:
Both the user and admin portals for our main instance were affected. This impacted a number of our hosted clients.
What was the cause of the outage:
As part of a scheduled software update on Sunday September 2nd, a database field in our “Activity” table was changed to a different data type. This change caused the transactions logs for the database to expand significantly and left little room on this drive. At midnight last night the drive ran out of space and our application stopped allowing users to log in.
Has this type of outage happened before?
What was done to repair:
We were successfully able to back up to the mirrored copy of the database and it was restored to production at 8:30am MST this morning. Our recovery protocols operated as designed.
We apologize for the outage.
