Around 2:00 AM MDT on the morning of September 14th, our North American(NA) servers began to experience a service disruption. Over the next several hours the disruption grew more widespread until 8:15 AM MDT when we were able to move the LMS over to our backup systems and restore full functionality.
The disruption was caused by a server hardware failure that itself was the result of a network outage experienced by Amazon Web Services the day before. While we were unable to prevent the LMS from experiencing an outage as a result of this, our backup systems worked as expected and restored functionality to the LMS with a minimum of downtime. We have since replaced the faulty hardware and are now completely back to normal operations.
