February 2019 Release Notes

This release is planned for deployment on February 3 at 9am PST/12pm EST/17 UTC to our North American and EU environments. Our AU and CN environments will be updated on February 4 at 4am AEDT/1am CST.
Please note: Features and functionality listed in these notes may change prior to release. Releases are deployed in sequence across environments over a one hour period, so users may see intermittent maintenance pages during that time.

New Learner Experience

Customizable Dashboard Tile Icons

The dashboard tile icons in the public and private dashboard can now be customized. This allows for a more customized look within your dashboard. Each tile can have its own icon; allowing you to customize multiple similar tiles (e.g. catalog, hyperlink, etc.) with a different icon that relates to the content.

The customization supports svg and png files.

  • svg - the colors in the file are replaced with the dashboard tile icon theme color or tile icon override color

  • png - existing colors within the file are retained.

Details on how to customize your Dashboard tile icons can be found here.

Task Lesson Updates

Task lessons within the New Learner Experience include support for simple tasks only. All existing other task lesson types have been deprecated.

  • Navigating to an existing lesson type that is no longer supported will display a message. We recommend you use course uploads or external training instead.
  • Existing non-simple task lessons can be converted to simple. Learners who have not completed the course yet can complete the simple task lesson.
  • All newly created task lessons will be created as simple tasks.
  • Learners will see a message and cannot access an existing non-simple task lesson within the interface.

Note: Deleting a task lesson from a course will remove all associated task records from the Tasks report.

Learner Inactivity Timeout

Learners who are idle within the LMS can now be prompted to remain logged in. This new setting is configurable for all learners within your LMS by setting a length of time (in minutes) where the learner is idle before automatically being logged out.

Other Updates

Within the New Learner Experience you’re able to customize the error messages that appear to users or learners on user fields and custom fields. These error messages will be used if you add custom regex to a field – which is helpful when you want to validate or restrict the information gathered from your learners. The error messages can now be configured in the following languages:

  • English
  • French
  • Spanish
  • German
  • Portuguese
  • Japanese

Further details on how to customize your field validation messages can be found here.

Learners can now be un-enrolled from courses through the REST API. This feature, in addition to the existing enrollment API calls, enables more complete management of course enrollments from external applications. Un-enrollment from all course types (Online, ILC, Curriculum, and Course Bundle) are supported. You'll be able to find the technical documentation here, after the release, under the EnrollmentsController section.

Scheduled Data Imports

Enrollment Keys

Enrollment Keys can now be created or updated in bulk as part of a one-time or scheduled data import. This is useful for managing large or dynamic lists of Enrollment Keys, especially if those lists are being generated by an external application.

Course Enrollment Rules

Self & automatic enrollment rules can now be copied from one course to another, in bulk, as part of a one-time or scheduled data import. Admins managing large course lists can save time by setting up a source/template course and copying its rules to a large number of other courses at once.
