Learner Experience

Learner Social Profile

In order to expand our social offering within the LMS, we now provide a version of a learner's profile that other learners can view. This feature can be used along side Conversations or independently.

  • Accessing the Social Profile and Conversations:
    • Conversations enabled only - wherever a user's name is visible within the learner experience it is now clickable and will open a conversations modal with that learner.
    • Social Profile enabled only - wherever a user's name is visible within the learner experience it is now clickable and will take you to their social profile.
    • Conversations and Social Profile enabled - wherever a user's name is visible within the learner experience it is now clickable and will take you to their social profile. From this page the learner can message the other learner.
  • Social Profile Visibility
    • The social profile is accessible from course comments and leaderboards. Admins and Instructors that are also learners will have a social profile that contains their information
  • System Admins have access to enable this feature; it can be found within Portal Settings under the Users tab

Admin Configuration of the Social Profile

The fields or content that appears on the Social Profile is configurable. Within the Manage Templates area an Admin with appropriate permissions can choose which content will appear. We've updated the "Profile" section under the Settings tab and the following content is configurable:

  • Learner Activity - badges, competencies, certificates and completed courses
  • Identification Information - user fields visible within Portal Settings > User Profile
  • Additional Information - a list of custom fields that have not been marked as Private

Viewing another Learner's Social Profile

  • A learner can access another learner's profile from course comments or leaderboards. If the learner has access to see the learner's name, they can access their profile.

Viewing your Social Profile

A learner has the ability to view their own social profile, thereby being able to see what other learners can see about them.

A learner can view their own social profile by:

  • Clicking on their name within a leaderboard or course comments.
  • Navigating to their profile and selecting the "View Social Profile" button on the left-hand side.

Configuring your Social Profile

Learners are able to choose to show or hide areas within the Learner Activity section. A new tab called "Settings" has been added to the learner's profile area. This new tab is the start of a learners ability to save their own settings.

    • Conversations enabled only - wherever a user's name is visible within the learner experience it is now clickable and will open a conversations modal with that learner.

  • Moderating messages sent by learner is not currently available.

Admin Configuration of Conversations - Emails

  • This setting is visible once the Conversations feature has been enabled. By default this is enabled.
  • Once enabled an Admin can configure a snooze time period - this helps reduce the number of emails received while a learner is having a conversation with another learner.
    • If enabled a learner has the ability to turn this off from their Profile if they choose. Learners can also configure their own snooze time period.

Conversations Between Learners

If a learner can see another learner's name they will be able to message them. Conversations can be accessed from two places:

  • Header Messages - this area has been redesigned as part of this feature and will include the latest five unread conversations.
  • Profile Page - a new area within the Messages tab has been added to show a list of conversations the learner has started. These are organized by newest first.

Expand or Collapse Refine Search Panel by Default

You can now configure whether the Catalog and My Courses "Refine Search" panel is expanded or collapsed by default for your learners. This allows for more control over the real estate of the page or if you prefer to not display the refine panel by default.

  • This is controlled within the Learner Management settings and applies to both the Catalog and My Courses.
  • Any time the learner navigates to the Catalog or My Courses page we will look for the value saved in learner management. The learner has the ability to expand (or collapse) the refine search panel while on the page but it will be reset the next time the page loads.
  • By default the new setting is off (panel is hidden).

  • A learner marked as absent in an Instructor Led Course can re-enroll in the course after the timeframe passes.
  • A user can login from the enrollment key sign up page and gain access to the courses from the enrollment key.
