Admin Refresh: Observation Checklist

Introduction

In the Admin Refresh interface, a new Learning Object is available: Observation Checklist.  With the Observation Checklist feature, a new user type (Reviewer) and user experiences are possible.

Course Administrators create Observation Checklists that contain evaluation criteria that a Reviewer can observe and evaluate to ensure a learner has the required skills and adequately performs the task at hand.

Important Notes

  • The "Reviewer" permission must be enabled at the User Profile level for whomever you want to be identified as the person who can assess the learner's performance before you configure the Observational Checklist. Click here to watch an example of this process.
  • If you want learners to earn a Competency upon completion, it will need to exist before you configure the Observational Checklist.
  • Please note that any branding applied to the Learner Interface will also be applied to the Reviewer Interface.

Instructions: How to Build an Observational Checklist Learning Object

Observational Checklist Learning Objects are created when either adding or editing an Online Course.  These instructions begin when adding a new Learning Object to the Online Course.

Step Instructions
1. Add Learning Object Beginning from the Online Course > Syllabus section, click the Add Learning Object button.
2. Observation  Checklist From the pop-up, choose the Observation Checklist option by clicking its radio button or icon, then click the Next button.
3. Name

Enter a Name for the Observation Checklist.

  • This is a required field.
4. Description

Enter a Description of the Observation Checklist.

  • This field and its information is not shown in the Learner Interface and is used for administrative identification only.
5.  Competency Awarded & Level

Optional: Click the Competency Awarded drop-down menu and choose a Competency. Then, if available, set the Level.

6. Reviewer(s) Click the Choose drop-down menu to select the User(s) permitted to review the Learners participating in the Observational Checklist.
7. Checklist

Configure the Observation Checklist Steps.

Action Details
Manage Steps

Click the Manage Steps button to edit and add additional steps to the checklist.

Required Fields: 

  • Title
  • Type: Choose one of the following: Yes/No, Observation, or 1-5 Rating.
Add Section

Click the Add Section button to divide steps into separate groups within the same checklist.

Instructions

Text entered here will assist the Reviewer in grading the step.

 

8. Save

Click the Save button to save and close the Observation Checklist pop-up and return to the Online Course build.

 

Reports

There are two new reports available with this functionality:

The Observation Checklist: The status of the Observation Checklists within a Course.

The Observation Checklist Activity: The status of Learners within an Observation Checklist.
