Controlled User Exclusion allows Administrators to stop Connector management for specific synced Users and restore that management later when needed. This article explains how Controlled User Exclusion works, who can use it, and what to expect when you exclude or re-include a User.
Use this feature when you need to prevent future Connector updates for an individual User without removing the overall integration. This supports more controlled user management for exceptions, corrections, and staged rollout scenarios.
Manage User Exclusion in Connector Syncs
This section explains the two main workflows available for Controlled User Exclusion. These actions apply to individual Users who have already been managed by the Connector.
Exclude a Synced User
Excluding a synced User stops future Connector updates for that User. After the exclusion, the User remains in Absorb and is managed locally rather than through the Connector.
- In the Admin Experience, navigate to the User Report.
- Filter the report to show Users currently managed by the Connector.
- Select the User you want to exclude.
- Click Manage Connector Access.
- Review the confirmation message, and click Exclude to confirm.
Once confirmed, the Connector no longer updates the User. The User remains active in the LMS unless you make additional changes separately.
Include a Previously Excluded User
Including a previously excluded User restores Connector management for that User. This is useful after you correct user data or when the User should be brought back under Connector control.
- In the Admin Experience, navigate to the User Report.
- Locate and select the User you want to re-include.
- Click Manage Connector Access.
- Review the confirmation message, and click Include to confirm.
Once confirmed, the User becomes eligible for Connector management again. On the next sync cycle, the Connector evaluates the User normally and resumes management when the required identifiers align.
Permissions
Controlled User Exclusion is limited to Administrators. To use this feature, Administrators need permission to access the User Report.
Requirements and Limitations
Your Portal must have an active Connector integration enabled before these actions are available. Controlled User Exclusion applies to user sync management only.
- Exclude and include actions are only supported at the individual User level.
- Excluding a User does not automatically deactivate or delete the User Account.
- There is no dedicated indicator or filter for previously excluded Users.
- Users created locally in the LMS and never managed by the Connector cannot be excluded or re-included through this workflow.
Excluding a User removes future Connector management for that User, but it does not remove the User from the LMS.
Troubleshooting
This section covers common issues you may encounter when managing Connector access for a User.
Cannot Exclude a User
In some cases, a User cannot be excluded because they were never previously synced and included through the Connector workflow. Review the confirmation message for details, and confirm that the User was originally managed by the Connector before attempting the action again.
