This article is about configuring a Department Template Tab. For more information about Department Templates please click here.
The Course Tab allows System Admins to customize the Course Details, the Catalog page, and the My Courses page within their LMS.
Courses
Courses is an accordion object that when clicked reveals settings for different sections.
These sections and their settings are as follows.
Course Player Layout
The Course Player Layout section allows you to determine how the Course Player is styled for Learners.
Default View
The Default View setting determines the initial layout the Course Player will use.
Here are the different types of available Course Player Layouts:
- Combined: The Course Player starts up with both the Details and Sidebar navigation panes displayed with the viewing pane.
- Sidebar: The Course Player starts up with only the Sidebar navigation displayed to the right of the viewing pane.
- Details: The Course Player starts up with only the Details pane displayed below the viewing pane.
-
Compact: The Course Player starts up with the viewing pane almost fully maximized. Essentially the:
- Details Pane is minimized to display only the tabs (Course Details, Lesson Details, etc.), and maximize player, view selector, and expand Course player buttons.
- Sidebar drops to align with the details pane and only displays the previous and next buttons.
Expand Details Pane
This setting relates to the default position of the Details Pane in the Course Player.
The toggle Expand Details Pane can be clicked to turn it ON. If ON the Details Pane will be fully expanded when a Learner first accesses a Course.
Banner
This image will display at the top of the Course Details page, behind the page name. If an image is not loaded, the default blue or grey diamond image will display to the Learner. Click the Browse button to open the File Manager and select/upload a Banner image.
- Suggested Size:
- 1920px x 160px
- 300 KB max
While the above dimensions and file size are the limit for Banner images, a larger image can be used, with the caveat that part of that image will be cut off when viewed from within the Learner Experience. A graphic designer, for example, could use a larger image with the intent of showcasing only a portion of that image within this space.
Course Details Layout
This section determines what details of the Course Settings will display to the Learners.
When Enable Pre-enrollment is enabled, Learners will be able to see the content selected as per this section:
When the Enable Pre-enrollment toggle is disabled, Learners will not be able to see any details of the Course before enrolling.
Instructor Led Course Sessions Layout
Here System Admins can determine the default view of Sessions within an Instructor Led Course on the Details page. The Sessions can display in a Detail list view or a Calendar view. The Learner can manually adjust to their preference once they are on this page.
Catalog
In the Catalog section, System Admins can determine the look and feel of the Catalog page for the Learner. The Catalog is where Learners will find all Courses they are eligible to enroll in or purchase.
The remaining settings under Catalog are as follows.
Always Hide Categories
By default, Courses will be organized by the Category assigned to the Course within the Catalog Visibility section of Course Settings.
Off: Courses will be organized into Categories.
On: The Courses will display independently on the page and not be organized by a Category.
Always Hide Enrolled Courses
By default Learners will see all Courses they have enrolled in, Courses they can enroll into, and Courses they have Completed within the Catalog.
Off: All Courses the Learner has enrolled into, Courses they can enroll into and Courses they have Completed will display in the Catalog.
On: The Learner will only see Courses they are eligible to enroll in and not Courses they are actively enrolled into.
Default View
The Default View of the Catalog page can be determined by clicking the style of your preference.
Card is the Default View unless it is otherwise specified in this section. The style selected here will be the Default View a Learner sees on the Catalog. The Learner will have the option to change their view manually from the top right-hand side of the Catalog page.
Default Sort Order
This setting allows you to determine the Default Sort Order of the Courses within the Catalog.
The drop-down when clicked will reveal each of the selectable options, for determining the order that Courses appear in on the Catalog.
My Courses

Hide Courses Outside Curricula
This toggle determines if Courses assigned to a Curriculum display independently on the My Courses page and the Catalog page, as well as within the Curriculum itself or only display them within the Curriculum.
This is any Course assigned Curricula in the LMS, not just the Courses the Learner is enrolled into. This toggle applies to Inactive Curricula as well, in which case neither the Course nor the Curriculum will be visible in the My Courses page, as Inactive Curricula aren't visible in the Learner Experience.
Off: Courses assigned to a Curriculum will display independently on the My Courses page and the Catalog page, as well as within the Curriculum.
On: Courses assigned to a Curriculum will only display within the Curriculum. If a User is enrolled into a Course that is part of a Curriculum, that Course will still appear on the My Courses page.
Enabling Hide Courses Outside Curricula does not hide Courses outside a Curriculum if the Course has Self Enrollment Rules enabled, and the User hasn't enrolled in both the Course and Curriculum.
Hide Completed Courses
This toggle hides all Courses that have been marked with a status of complete from the My Courses and Catalog pages.
Off: All Courses the Learner is eligible to enroll in, regardless of Status, will display on the My Courses and Catalog page.
On: Courses the Learner has received a complete Status for will not be visible on the My Courses or Catalog page. The Learner will need to search for these Courses or view them on their Transcripts.
