This article is about the paid add-on Absorb Skills. For information on purchasing this service, please reach out to your Client Success representative.
- Click here to view the Absorb Skills Introduction.
As part of Absorb Skills, Learners can access a Self-Assessment to evaluate the Skills related to their current role.
Accessing Absorb Skills
Once a Learner has qualified for a Skills License, they will see a New badge on their Profile icon in the Learner Experience. When they click on this icon, they will be taken to their Skills Profile (which is the new default landing page for Learners that qualify for a Skills license) where they can begin their upskilling journey by starting a Self-Assessment.
The Learner officially consumes a Skills license once they start a Self-Assessment.
Previously, Info was the main landing page of the Learner’s Profile. This has been shifted so that a Learner’s Skills Profile will be the first page they land on when navigating to their Profile. This will make it easier to start and continue engaging with the Absorb Skills feature.
Other Profile tabs and functionality are unaffected by this change; they have just been shifted to the left of the main order.
The Self-Assessment
The Self-Assessment puts the Learners in the drivers seat by helping them structure their career and upskilling goals into a tangible plan. The Learner can spend time learning about roles within their organization that they aspire to be in, focus on improving the skills for their current position, or identifying specific areas of interest that they would like to focus on.
Learners can also choose to focus solely on Skills rather than a specific Role.
Skills-Only Path
From the Dashboard Learning Pathway tile or Profile banner,
- Click Get Started.
- Select Skills-only. This will bypass Role selection.
- Select Skills. Search and pick Skills from available options that align with your goals or interests. Skills can be added or removed at any time.
- Click Save to save your selections, or click Finish later to save your progress and return to your Profile.
- Search for Courses based on your selected Skills and add them to your Learning Path.
Role-Based Paths
Learners can select a specific Role they would like to learn about, either their current Role or a different one.
Current Role
To start, the Learner must choose their Current Role (or one similar). This helps set the baseline for skill proficiency levels in the product, as well as match the correct goals in future steps of the Self-Assessment.
- Role must be selected before the Learner can move on to the next steps.
- Once a Role is selected (by clicking anywhere in the top section of the card), the Summary Banner is shown. This Summary Banner will be updated as the Learner progresses through the Self-Assessment.
- A Learner can search to find a specific role, such as “Customer Success Manager”.
- This grid is always sorted alphabetically (A-Z), and the Load More button will expose another page of results.
- View Details shows a summary of the particular Job Role. This can help the Learner with identifying the correct Role to choose based on the additional context provided.
Desired Role
Now that a Learner has selected a Current Role as a starting point, they need to choose a Desired Role as a goal.
If a Learner would like to improve in their current role’s scope, or focus on specific skills (not just an overall role), then the best practice would be to choose their Current Role again as their Desired Role.
-
Roles are sorted by Percent Match:
- This is calculated based on how many overlapping Job Skills there are between the two roles. More similarities will lead to a higher percentage match, and these are indicated by a green briefcase icon on the View Details page of the role.
-
Current Role will always be 100% match, and use the
successcolour variable. - High and normal percent matches (99% - 31%) use the
primarycolour variable. - Low percent matches (30% and below) use the
defaultcolour variable.
- Role must be selected before the Learner can move on to the next steps.
- Once a Role is selected (by clicking anywhere in the top section of the card), the Summary Banner is updated.
- A Learner can search to find a specific role, such as “Customer Success Manager”.
- The Load More button will expose another page of results.
- View Details shows a summary of the particular Job Role. This can help the Learner with identifying the correct Role to choose based on the additional context provided.
Rating Job Skills
Now that the Learner has chosen a goal (Desired Role), it’s time for them to rate their proficiency across the Job Skills associated with that role.
The Job Skills populated here are based on what the Learner has chosen for their Desired Role.
- A Learner simply needs to click the star for the proficiency level they feel like they fit into for a given skill
- There are three levels for Job Skills proficiency:
- Beginner: Little to no expertise or knowledge.
- Intermediate: Some expertise and knowledge.
- Advanced: Significant expertise and knowledge.
- Results are saved on click, so even if a Learner has to leave the Self-Assessment part way through, their progress is saved.
- A Learner is free to update their ratings until they have completed Self-Assessment. At this point, this is the final rating that will be associated with this particular Self-Assessment record for historical purposes (however, the Learner is free to update their ratings at any time in the future using the Edit Skills function on the Skills Profile, but these updated ratings will not be directly associated with the Self-Assessment).
- At least one item must be rated before they can move to the next screen.
A Learner can also choose to add additional Job Skills to their Self-Assessment. This is useful if they have another particular area of interest that they would like to explore outside of what is directly tied to the role they chose as their Desired Job Role.
- After clicking the Add Job Skills button, the user will be taken to the Add Job Skills subpage of the Self-Assessment modal.
- There are two main sections to this page:
- Current Role: This is automatically populated by the Job Skills tied to your Current Role. In the screenshot below, you can see that there is some overlapping Skills between the two Roles, so they are greyed out here.
- Job Skills: This allows the Learner to freely search for a Job Skill to add, and this does not need to be related to either of the roles.
- Once additional Job Skills have been selected and the Learner hits OK, they will be taken back to the Job Skills page of the Self-Assessment modal, and they will be able to choose a rating for these as well.
- A Learner is also able to remove any of the Additional Job Skills that they have added by using the x control to the right of the stars.
Summary and Next Steps
Once both Job Skills have been rated, the Learner will be presented with a quick summary of their Self-Assessment.
- The Self-Assessment record will be committed once they hit either the Create Learning Path or Done button.
- Before doing so, they are still free to navigate back to earlier steps to update any of their selections or ratings.
- The Learner will not be able to go back to this modal after completing this - they would need to use either Edit Skills on the Skills Profile or start a new Self-Assessment if they would like to change their selections (like choose a different Desired Role).
- The next step from here is for them to craft their personal Learning Path!
- After closing the Self-Assessment, their Skills Profile will be updated to show content specific to their Skills activity and progress.
Once you complete your Self-Assessment, your Manager will have the opportunity to review your ratings and provide their own evaluation and feedback. You’ll be emailed a direct link to their feedback, in addition to a banner on the Learner Profile.
Setting a New Goal or Starting Over
Once a goal has been set, a Learner may want to set a new goal or reset the current one. To do this, return to the Skills Profile page and complete the following:
- Scroll to the bottom of the page.
- At the bottom of the page, locate the light red banner with the message "Start a new learning path if you're ready to try something different". Click the banner to start a new learning goal.
