Time to Complete

TTC Portal vs. Course Setting

Time to Complete must be enabled at the Portal level before it can be enabled for individual Courses. For information on Portal Settings and how to enable Time to Complete at the Portal level, see the Info Tab section of the Portal Settings article.

Time to Complete (TTC) allows Learners to understand their time commitment and schedule that time appropriately as it relates to an Online Course. TTC is a setting available under the Catalog Visibility section of the Add/Edit Online Course page. By default, TTC is off, and it must be manually enabled for each Online Course, even after the Portal-level setting has been turned on.

When TTC is enabled on an active Course, the TTC value will be displayed for Learners:

The Time to Complete setting is only available for Online Courses at this time. Time to Complete cannot be configured for Curricula, Instructor Led Courses, or Course Bundles.

  6. Finish configuring the Online Course and click Save.

Time to Complete Off

Off is the default Time to Complete state for every new Online Course, regardless of whether the Portal-level setting is enabled. When Off is selected, no Time to Complete is shown in the Learner Interface.

Automatic Time to Complete

The Automatic option for TTC determines the Time to Complete for the Online Course as a process based on completions across enrollments. For this reason, it can take a few completions before the system can determine and display the TTC for a given Online Course.

  • When selected, with less than five (5) completions, no TTC is shown for the Course in the Learner Interface.

  • With more than five (5) completions and less than 150,000 completions, the median completion time is used after removing statistical outliers.

    • For example, in the case when Learners leave their browser open for a week.

  • With 150,000 or more calculations, the average completion time is shown.

  • Automatic time to complete will not show a time range, it displays in hours and minutes.

    • EX: 3h 27m

  • When a Learner completes a Course, their completion time is taken into account and the TTC value updates.

Manual Time to Complete

Setting a Manual TTC allows you to use a static value, based on your own experiences or expectations. As a Manual TTC value will not change as Learners achieve further completions, it will appear immediately for Learners.

  • When selected, hours and minutes can be designated and adjusted accordingly.

  • TTC defaults to one (1) hour when set to Manual.

  • Hours and minutes can be designated, the range is automatically the same plus five (5) minutes but can be adjusted accordingly.

  • If a time range is not desired, the first value should be set to zero (0).

  • Manual time to complete is in five (5) minute increments.

Lesson Duration Time to Complete

Available solely for Courses using third party content, either uploaded to the LMS directly (ie SCORM and xAPI files) or via a content provider, the Lesson Duration TTC will add up the duration values of all third party lessons in a Course for display to Learners.

  • Lesson Duration TTC can be set in either the Course Editor or when converting Courses from a content library.
  • The Lesson Duration TTC can be set via bulk editing.
  • Using the Lesson Duration TTC improves accuracy for vendor library content.

When the Portal-level Time to Complete setting is enabled, an Admin can also set Time to Complete as the Default Sort Order for My Courses under Manage Template > Course > My Courses > Default Sort Order.

Time to Complete Data Column

The Time to Complete column is not displayed by default in the Courses Report. This information can help an Admin determine whether Course content is being completed efficiently, and whether it should be broken into smaller micro-learning opportunities. The TTC column can be added from the Display Columns list and it will display in hours and minutes. EX: 3h 27m. If a Course has a Time to Complete range configured, the Courses Report displays only the upper value of that range.

Time to Complete Frequently Asked Questions
