Absorb Learning Mobile App

Mobile OS Support

The Absorb Learning Mobile App aligns with the latest OS release of both iOS and Android devices. The Mobile App no longer supports the following operating system versions:

  • iOS versions: 15, 16, 17 or below.
  • Android versions: 12 or below.

You can continue using the app on older OS versions and will still receive new features. However, we won’t be able to fix bugs that occur only on unsupported OS versions. If an issue affects both supported and unsupported versions, it will be addressed in future updates. To ensure the best experience, we recommend upgrading your device’s operating system.

The Absorb Learning Mobile App allows Learners to access the Learner Experience through their iOS and Android mobile devices, including phones, iPads, and tablets. The branding of the Absorb Learning Mobile App will be consistent with the web based Learner Experience.

When Learners are signed in to the Absorb Learning Mobile App, they will have access to your browsable Course Catalog and they will be able to access Online Courses or Curricula. Supported Lesson types include:

Supported Lesson Types

  • Object
  • Video
  • Assessment
  • Survey
  • Task (Online Only)
  • SCORM 1.2
  • SCORM 2004
  • Tin Can
  • AICC

  • LinkedIn Learning content library (Online Only)

  • Absorb Amplify content library, including licensing check (Online Only)

Learners can access Lessons online or offline through the App by downloading the Lesson on their mobile devices.  If Learners complete a course offline, they can synchronize their progress once they have reconnected to the internet.

Online Courses must have Availability > Allow Course Content Download enabled for the Learner to download the Online Course Lessons and work offline.

Single Sign-On Support

Learners will be able to sign in through the Service Provider Initiated SAML SSO settings that have been configured in the Portal Settings of the Portal.

The ADP Connector SSO is not currently supported by the Absorb Learn Mobile App, and you will need to leverage a separate Service Provider Initiate SAML SSO if this workflow is preferred.

Configuring the Mobile App

Prior to enabling the Mobile App for use in an Online Course. The Mobile App must be enabled at the Portal Settings level. For new Portals, the Mobile App is enabled by default.

Once Mobile App has been enabled, Systems Admins can brand the Mobile App with its own logo, or change design elements by modifying the ThemeMobile App availability can now also be toggled on or off for Online Courses.

  6. Turn the Mobile App toggle ON.

  7. Select Save from the top right action bar.
Mobile App Updates

The way our Mobile App updates is dependent on local device settings, which govern whether updates are automatic or manual. Automatic updates must be enabled in either the Play Store (Android) or in settings for the App Store (iOS) in order for the Mobile App to be updated automatically. Otherwise, updates will need to be done manually from the Play Store/App Store.

Note that mobile devices managed by a company/organization may have their own update cadence, depending on how internal IT teams decide application updates should be handled.

Course Configuration

In historical versions of the Mobile App it was required to toggle a Course to be available for the Mobile App. In version 4.0+ of the Mobile App, this is no longer the case. An Online Course or Curriculum is available in the Mobile App so long as the enrollment rules and visibility matches the User accessing it.

Absorb Learning Mobile App Course Limitations

When accessing a Course via the Mobile App, various aspects of Course functionality differ from the in-browser experience.

Video Objects

When using Video Objects in a Course offered via the Absorb Learning Mobile App, note progress is not bookmarked in the same way it is when accessed in a browser. Learners who disengage with a Video Object on the Mobile App without completing may need to restart the video when opening the Course again for this reason.

Course Uploads

Course Uploads are not supported in the Absorb Learning Mobile App. Courses that rely on the Course Uploads feature cannot be successfully completed by Learners through the app.

Learners must access Courses containing Course Uploads through a web browser to complete this content.

Troubleshooting

When accessing the Absorb Learning Mobile App, Learners may experience some common issues.  We have provided possible causes and solutions for these issues as well as information on how to reach out to the Absorb Help Desk for additional assistance if needed.

Consider the following possible issues and their resolutions:

Issue Solution
Learner experiencing errors when attempting to sync their progress from the Absorb Learning Mobile App to the web LMS.

Likely causeAdmin made changes to the Lessons or the Admin unenrolled the Learner from the Online Course while Learner was working on course content offline.

Solution: Admins should contact Learners In Progress prior to making any changes that may disrupt their progress offline.

Learner receives the error message Access Denied. Please contact your Administrator when logging into the LMS through the Absorb Learning Mobile App.

Likely cause: The Absorb Learning Mobile App has not been enabled

Solution:  System Admin will need to enabled in Portal Settings > Info > Enable App Mobile

Learner receives the error message: An unexpected error has occurred when logging into the LMS through the Absorb Learning Mobile App.

Likely cause: The default Language for this Learner is not selected in their account.

Solution:  System Admin will need to select a Language in User Management > Details > Language

A Learner tries to log in via the Mobile App but receives the warning "Too many failed attempts - please wait 15 minutes and try again."

This may be occurring because the Learner is required to set a new password on first time log in. To resolve this issue, have the Learner access the LMS via the web interface, confirm they can log in successfully, then attempt to log in via the Mobile App again.

If Learners continue to experience any issues after these solutions have been attempted, Admins can open a support ticket by going to https://support.absorblms.com and selecting Contact Us. Be sure to include the following information:

  • Device and OS information (e.g. iPhone, iOS 12.3.1 or Samsung Galaxy S9+)
  • Issue details (e.g. error message received)
  • Steps taken to fix the error
