Creators can include Video Avatars from several providers, including Synthesia, in their Absorb Create Courses by providing an External Content URL in an External Content slide. This article describes how to add a Video Avatar to a Course and how to obtain the correct video link from Synthesia.
Add a Video Avatar to a Course
To add a Video Avatar to your Course, follow these steps:
- Access Absorb Create.
-
Select External Content from the Add Page menu.
-
Paste the relevant video link or URL from the provider into the External Content URL field.
- Publish the External Content.
Video Link from Synthesia
The format of the video link or URL used for this External Content looks like this:
- https://share.synthesia.io/{videoid}
In Synthesia, you can access this link from the Advanced settings menu:
From Advanced settings, you can select either Copy embed code or Copy video link:
You can use either option to obtain the correct value for the External Content URL field in Absorb Create. Copy video link instantly provides a URL you can paste into the External Content URL field. Copy embed code requires you to paste the copied code into a text editor, extract the embed URL, and use that URL as the value for the External Content URL field.
The URL extracted from the embed code looks like this:
- https://share.synthesia.io/embeds/videos/{videoid}
For the most native Learner experience, we recommend using Copy embed code and extracting the embed URL. The embed URL loads the dedicated Synthesia video player, so the video typically displays with less surrounding whitespace and reduced Synthesia branding, which makes it feel closer to a native Video Page in Absorb Create. By comparison, Copy video link points to the full Synthesia share page, which shows more surrounding page elements and visible Synthesia branding, so it reads more obviously as embedded external content.
Both URL types reference the same live, Synthesia-hosted video, so updates made to the source video in Synthesia are reflected automatically without re-uploading.
