This release introduces v1.5.0 of the Absorb Aura app for Microsoft Teams, which adds the Absorb Learn tab. The tab embeds the full Absorb learner experience inside Teams, so Learners can start and finish training where they already work, without opening a browser or signing in separately. A System Admin turns on the tab from Client Settings > Workplace apps.

New Features

This section describes the new Absorb Learn tab, the settings that control it, how Learners sign in, and the Portal requirements for using it.

Absorb Learn Tab

The Absorb Learn tab hosts the embedded Absorb Learner Experience inside Teams. It is available in the Teams desktop app, Teams on the web, and Teams mobile. From the tab, Learners can:

  • View their dashboard, including assigned Courses, progress, and featured content.
  • Browse or search the Course Catalog and view Course details such as duration, ratings, and prerequisites.
  • Enroll in and launch Courses, with the Course player running inside the tab.
  • Resume in-progress Courses from where they left off.
  • Review completed training and certificates in their transcript.

The tab runs the standard Absorb Course player, so no lesson type is blocked or hidden inside Teams. One difference applies: a lesson configured to open in a pop-up window or a new tab opens inline in the tab instead. Training completed in Teams uses the same enrollment record as the browser-based LMS, so Learners can start a Course in one and finish it in the other.

The Absorb Learn tab is a destination Learners open when they choose. The app does not send notifications to Learners.

Microsoft Teams Settings in Workplace Apps

A System Admin connects the portal to the organization's Teams tenant and turns on the Absorb Learn tab from the Microsoft Teams section in Client Settings. Follow these steps:

  1. Access the Admin Experience (AE).
  2. Navigate to Account > Client Settings.
  3. Click Workplace apps.
  4. In the Microsoft Teams section, enter your organization's Tenant ID.
  5. Turn on the Embed Learning Experience toggle.
  6. Click Save.

One Absorb Portal connects to exactly one Teams tenant. If the Tenant ID is already recorded against another Absorb Portal, the save is rejected.

Before Learners use the tab, a Microsoft 365 admin grants admin consent for the Absorb Aura enterprise application in the Microsoft Entra admin center. Your Teams administrator then makes the app available from Teams Admin Center > Teams apps > Manage apps, either to everyone or to specific people or groups for a pilot.

Sign-In Experience

Most Learners are signed in to the Absorb Learn tab automatically, using the Microsoft work account Teams already holds. What a Learner sees depends on your Portal's Single Sign-On (SSO) setup:

Portal SSO Setup What the Learner Sees
Microsoft Entra ID, or another Identity Provider (IdP) federated through it No sign-in prompt, provided their Absorb username or email address matches their Microsoft account.
An IdP not federated through Microsoft Entra ID, such as Okta, Auth0, or Ping A sign-in pop-up that hands off to that IdP's own sign-in.
No SSO configured The Absorb login screen inside the tab.

Learners who sign in through a pop-up or the login screen are not asked again until their session expires, which is controlled by your IdP. Learners must allow pop-ups for Microsoft Teams so the sign-in window can open.

Mobile Device Support

The embedded experience requires partitioned cookie support on the device. Devices without it, including Android 11 and earlier, iPhones manufactured in 2019 or earlier, and any iPhone running iOS 18.3 or earlier, show a fallback page with an Open Training button that opens Absorb in the device's browser. This list is a screening guide, as Absorb tests each device when the tab loads.

Portal Requirements

Your Portal must meet all four of the following requirements to use the Absorb Learn tab. A Portal that does not meet any one of them cannot use the tab, and Absorb can confirm whether your Portal qualifies before you begin.

  • The Portal is a production Portal. Sandbox Portals accept the settings, but they have no effect.
  • All Learners sign in the same way. A mix of SSO and non-SSO Learners, or more than one SSO configuration used by different groups, is not supported.
  • If the Portal uses SSO, it is Service Provider (SP)-initiated SAML or OpenID Connect (OIDC).
  • The Portal has a .myabsorb address that Teams can use for all Learners. If it does not, Absorb adds one at no effort on your part, and custom or vanity domains continue to work in the browser.

Updated Features

This section describes changes to the existing Absorb Aura app for Microsoft Teams.

Two Tabs in the Absorb Aura App

The Absorb Aura app now contains two tabs, each with its own requirements:

Tab Requirement
Absorb Learn Turned on by a System Admin with the Embed Learning Experience toggle. Does not depend on Aura.
Chat The Aura assistant. Requires the Aura Learner Agent for your organization. Installing the Teams app does not turn Aura on.

For more information about the Chat tab, see Aura for Microsoft Teams and Aura Learner Agent.

App Customization

Your Teams administrator can change the app's display name, short and long descriptions, icons, and accent color for your organization from Teams Admin Center > Manage apps > Customize. These changes apply only to your organization and do not require a store re-submission. Note that a renamed app will not match Absorb documentation that refers to the app as Absorb Aura.
