Important: Create licenses may only be assigned to individual/personable LMS accounts and email addresses, and not shared accounts/hot seat emails. Troubleshooting will not be conducted on shared or generic LMS accounts.
In this article, we will take you through the steps to assign a User with a Create license, Create Role and Workspace(s). We'll also cover how a new User can access Absorb Create.
- Assigning a Create license, Create Role, and Workspace is done through the Absorb LMS Admin Experience.
- Workspaces (which will appear in Create) can only be created from the Admin Experience while editing a User account.
License Assignment
Create licenses are assigned by Admins through the Admin Experience. A User must have a Create license in order to access Absorb Create. In this section we will walk through how to assign a license to a User.
Note: an LMS Admin can assign an unused Create licence to a User account; however, once a license has been assigned to an account, it cannot be removed and switched to another User. To do so, you must contact your AM or Absorb Create.
To assign a Create license to a User, please follow the steps below:
- Navigate to the Users tab in the Admin Experience.
- Select the User you want to assign the license to and click Edit User.
- Scroll down to the Creator toggle and enable it to assign the Create license to that User.
- When the Creator toggle is enabled, two additional fields become available: Roles and Workspaces. Click on the Roles field to assign a Creator Role to the User. Creator Roles are outlined further in the next section.
- Click the Workspaces field and select which Workspaces this User will have access to.
- Click Save.
Creator Roles
There are 4 types of roles for Create. The Roles menu becomes available under the Create toggle after it has been enabled:
These Roles and their Permissions are defined as follows:
- Author: Ability to create new Courses and modify content in Absorb Create. Cannot publish Courses.
- Publisher: Same rights as the Author Role. Can also publish Courses.
- Producer: Same rights as the Publisher Role. Can also create Custom Themes, Shared Templates and Models.
- Owner: Has access to everything - i.e., same rights as the Producer, and can also move Courses from one Workspace to another.
Workspaces
Still in the Creator section, below Roles, is the Workspaces menu. Workspaces are environments made to contain Courses and media files within Absorb Create. When using Create, you can view the name of the current Workspace in the top right corner of the page. It is important to note that the content within the Courses and Media Library tabs is unique to each Workspace. This means that a Create User will only be able to view Courses and media from Workspaces that they have access to, and a Course can only be in one Workspace at a time.
This is a way to segregate Courses between multiple Departments or offices. Workspaces can be customized to meet an organization's preferences.

Creating a New Workspace
New Workspaces can be created while assigning a Create license. In the Admin Experience, complete the following steps:
- Click on the Workspaces field.
- Enter the name of the Workspace you want to create.
- A Create new workspace button will appear. Click on this button to create the new Workspace.
Note that once a Workspace has been created, it is not possible to delete or re-name it.
Once you have created any new Workspaces, you can assign them to that User.
Moving Between Workspaces
A User can be assigned to multiple Workspaces. Once in Absorb Create, they can see in the top right corner which Workspace they are in. Clicking on the Workspace name opens a drop down menu that displays all the Workspaces that User has access to. That User can click on a different Workspace to open it.
Accessing Absorb Create
Once the Create license has been assigned to the User, a new icon for Absorb Create will appear in the Admin sidebar in their LMS.
There are two options in this menu:
- Create Content: This opens Absorb Create directly in the Create Course page. You will be greeted by the Themes menu.
- Manage Content: This opens Absorb Create in the Courses menu so that you can select an existing Course to edit it.
