5. How to Preview and Publish a Course

This article describes how to preview a Course in Absorb Create and the publishing options available for making it accessible to your learners. The workflows below apply to Absorb Create: Standalone (Authoring & Hosting).

Previewing Your Course

Absorb Create offers several ways to preview a Course before publishing. Use these options to verify content, player settings, and how the responsive layout will appear on different devices.

Preview from the Courses Tab

You can launch a quick preview of a Course directly from the Courses list without opening the editor. This option is useful for spot-checking how a Learner will experience the content.

  1. Locate the Course in the Courses list.
  2. Click the three-dot menu to the right of the Course.

  3. Click Preview.

Review Mode

Review Mode lets you navigate a Course with reviewers, add comments, and respond to feedback from other reviewers. For details on managing reviewers, see Content Reviewer - Standalone.

  1. Access a Course.
  2. Click the Review button on the right side of the top toolbar.

  3. Navigate through the Course, adding and responding to comments as needed.
  4. Use the Mobile Preview function to test how the responsive layout will appear on different mobile devices.

  5. Click the Editor button to return to edit mode.

Playback Mode

Playback Mode displays the Course exactly as a Learner would see it. Use this mode to confirm that your player settings, navigation, and interactions behave as intended.

  1. Click the Playback Mode button on the right side of the top toolbar.

  2. Navigate through the Course to verify that your player settings operate as expected.
  3. Use the Mobile Preview function to test how the responsive layout will appear on different mobile devices.

  4. Click the Back to Editor button to return to edit mode.

Publishing Your Course

Once your Course is reviewed and ready, click the Publish button in the top right of the editor to open the Publish wizard. The wizard contains four tabs, each representing a different way to deliver the Course to your learners:

  • Share Course: generate a shareable URL.
  • Publish to LMS: download a SCORM Wrapper or other export for an external LMS.
  • Download Content: export the Course as a self-contained package.
  • Enroll Learners: publish to the AbsorbCreate Hosting/Delivery instance and enroll Learners directly.

The following sections describe each option in detail.

Download Content

The Download Content tab exports a self-contained archive of your Course. Use this option when you want to host the Course on your own website, archive a copy for compliance, or upload it to a third-party LMS.

  1. Click the Publish button in the top right of the editor.
  2. Select the Download Content tab in the Publish wizard.
  3. Click the dropdown next to the Publish button at the bottom right of the wizard and choose a package type:
    • SCORM 2004: for import into your LMS.
    • SCORM 1.2: for import into your LMS.
    • xAPI: for import into your LMS.
    • HTML5: for hosting on your own website or archiving for compliance.
  4. Click Publish to create the package.
  5. Once publishing is complete, click Download latest zip package to save the file to your computer.
  6. Upload the package to your destination LMS or web host.

Note

Download Content is available in both the AbsorbCreate Authoring and AbsorbCreate Hosting/Delivery packages. Use this option to deliver your Course to any LMS other than the Hosting/Delivery instance.

Publish to LMS

The Publish to LMS tab provides export options for delivering your Course through an external LMS while keeping the source content hosted on your AbsorbCreate Cloud. The primary option in this tab is the SCORM Wrapper, a lightweight launcher file that references the hosted Course rather than embedding the full package.

Using a SCORM Wrapper allows you to:

  • Upload a small SCORM package once to your external LMS while keeping the content on your AbsorbCreate Cloud.
  • Push updates to Learners automatically by republishing the Course in Absorb Create.
  • Capture detailed analytics in AbsorbCreate Cloud while still recording completion in your external LMS.

To download a SCORM Wrapper:

  1. Click the Publish button in the top right of the editor.
  2. Select the Publish to LMS tab in the Publish wizard.
  3. Click the Publish button at the bottom right to ensure all changes are pushed.
  4. Click Download SCORM Wrapper. The wrapper file is downloaded to your computer.
  5. Upload the wrapper file to your external LMS.

Note

The Publish to LMS tab is only available with the AbsorbCreate Hosting/Delivery package. Additional export formats may appear in this tab depending on your account configuration.

Share Course

The Share Course tab generates a shareable URL that you can send to learners or stakeholders directly. This option is useful for stakeholder reviews, external partners, or audiences who do not need to be enrolled in an LMS.

  1. Click the Publish button in the top right of the editor.
  2. Select the Share Course tab in the Publish wizard. A Course URL is generated automatically.
  3. Click the Publish button at the bottom right to push your latest changes.
  4. Copy the generated URL and share it with your intended audience.

Note

Share Course is only available with the AbsorbCreate Hosting/Delivery package.

Publishing to the AbsorbCreate Hosting/Delivery Instance

If you have the AbsorbCreate Hosting/Delivery package, you can publish your Course directly to the Hosting/Delivery instance and enroll learners from within Absorb Create.

  1. Click the Publish button in the top right of the editor. The Course is published to the Hosting/Delivery instance of AbsorbCreate.
  2. Select the Enroll Learners tab in the Publish wizard.
  3. Click Go to Hosting to access the Hosting/Delivery instance and begin enrolling learners.

Note

Publishing to the Hosting/Delivery instance is only available with the AbsorbCreate Hosting/Delivery package.

For supported file formats and export specifications, see Input and Output Specifications for Create.
