Aura Create: Course Authoring Agent

Coming Soon!

This is an upcoming feature for Aura Create. More details will be available soon!

Aura Create is an AI-powered Course authoring agent embedded directly in Absorb LMS. It enables any eligible LMS Admin go from a text prompt or source document to a published, Block-Based Course without leaving the platform. This article explains how to access and use Aura Create, including Course generation and troubleshooting.

Access Aura Create

To use Aura Create, your organization must have at least one Absorb Create seat, and either have signed the required AI terms, or are on Absorb's latest Terms & Conditions. A System Admin must also enable the Aura Course Authoring Agent for your organization in Client Settings

User Access and Permissions

Access to Aura Create is limited to Users with an LMS Admin or System Admin role. Learners do not have access to Aura Create.

The following conditions must be met before Aura Create is available in your environment:

  • Your organization must have at least one active Absorb Create seat. This grants access to Aura Create for all eligible Admins in your organization.
  • A System Admin must enable the Aura Course Authoring Agent at the organization level through Client Settings.
  • The Modify with AI permission is required. Administrators, Create Editors, and System Administrators have this permission automatically added to their role. If your organization requires this permission to be disabled, a Custom Administrator role can be created.

Access Aura Create

Aura Create is accessed directly from the Courses report in the Admin Experience (AE). Admins do not need to navigate to a separate tool or leave the LMS at any point in the authoring process.

To open Aura Create, follow these steps:

  1. In the Admin Experience, click the Courses icon in the left-hand menu.
  2. Click Generate Course from the Courses report.

The Aura Create landing page opens as an immersive, full-page experience. From here you can start a new Course or access previous chat sessions.

You can return to a previous conversation by opening Aura Create and clicking on a topic under Recent

Generate a Course

Aura Create uses a conversational, chat-based interface to guide you through Course generation. The process begins with a prompt and ends with a published Course in Absorb LMS.

In the Admin Experience, open the Courses Report and follow these steps:

  1. In the Courses report, click Generate Course to open the Aura Create landing page.

  2. Enter your Course topic in the prompt text box, then click Generate course. Include the intended audience, skill level, and desired learning outcomes for best results. A PDF source can be optionally uploaded with a prompt, but cannot be uploaded without one.

  3. Review Aura's response and either click Generate outline, Search for external documents to use external knowledge, or enter your changes in the prompt window.

Generate outline creates a Course outline based on your prompt, while Search for external documents will suggest documents from your organization's existing knowledge to base the Course on. Users can elect to use either a PDF or an external knowledge source, but cannot use both. The source can be altered prior to outline generation, but cannot be altered after that point.

  4. Review the AI-proposed learning objectives and Course Outline. Click Generate course to use the existing outline, or enter your changes in the prompt window.

  5. Review the generated Course. Aura displays the Course to the right of the chat window in Absorb. Refine the Course through the chat window. You can request changes to tone, depth, examples, or length. Click any image block to replace it with your own image or one from Unsplash.

  6. Click Publish course to save the Course to Absorb LMS. If your User Profile is set up with a Creator role, you'll also have the option to click Edit in Create to open it in Absorb Create for advanced editing.

You can discard a generated Course by clicking the three-dots menu next to the Publish button and selecting Discard. Discarding a generated Course will delete the Course, its lesson, and the chat.

Aura Create vs. Absorb Create

Aura Create and Absorb Create are two distinct authoring tools available within the Absorb ecosystem. While they can be used together, they serve different purposes and are suited to different types of content and authoring workflows.

Consideration Aura Create Absorb Create
How it works Describe your Course in a chat interface or upload a source document. Aura generates a structured Course in minutes, which you can refine through conversation before publishing. Build Courses in a browser-based visual editor using drag-and-drop tools, templates, custom themes, and multimedia embedding.
Best for Empowering Admins across the organization to quickly create compliance training, ops guides, and policy updates without specialized authoring skills. Flagship onboarding, customer education, partner enablement, certification programs, and branded interactive learning experiences.
Content sources Text prompts, uploaded PDFs and guides, or connected sources such as SharePoint, Confluence, OneDrive, and Dropbox. Manual creation, templates, PowerPoint import, and AI-assisted content generation.
Design and branding Clean, professional Course templates ready to use out of the box. Full custom themes with your organization's colors, fonts, logos, and reusable design systems.
Interactivity Content blocks with text, images, and knowledge checks (true/false and multiple choice). Branching scenarios, drag-and-drop activities, layered video interactions, AI narration, surveys, and rich assessments with performance feedback.
Publishing Publish directly to Absorb LMS. Publish to Absorb LMS or export as SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI, or HTML5 for use on any compliant platform.

Edit a Generated Course

Courses generated through Aura Create can be refined by selecting the Course and clicking AI Refine in the Actions menu to the right of the Courses Report. Note that you can only refine Courses that you have created; you cannot refine someone else's Course

Limitations

Aura Create does not support the following features:

  • AI Voiceovers and narration.
  • PowerPoint file conversions.
  • Advanced interactions and branching scenarios.
  • Deep branding controls and custom themes.
  • Collaborative authoring and approval workflows.
  • Video uploads.
  • Direct outline editing via drag-and-drop.
  • Open-ended or scenario-branching question types.
  • Absorb Assessments (Course-level or LMS-level).
  • AI-generated images (Course images are sourced from Unsplash or uploaded by the Admin).
  • Slide-based Course generation.

Troubleshooting

The following section covers errors you may encounter while using Aura Create and steps to resolve them.

No External Documents Found

This error appears when you select External Knowledge as a source but Aura cannot locate any matching content in the knowledge index. To resolve this issue:

  1. Confirm that External Knowledge is enabled for your tenant in Client Settings.
  2. Verify that the correct knowledge sources are connected and selected.
  3. Check that the last sync completed successfully. Newly added files are not immediately searchable and require time to sync before they are available.

For more information on External Knowledge in Aura, see the Aura Learner Agent: External Knowledge article.

Content Flagged by Safety Guardrails

This error appears when a prompt or course topic triggers Aura's content safety guardrails. An error message indicates that the request could not be completed. To resolve this issue:

  1. Try rephrasing the prompt.
  2. If the topic is legitimate and the guardrails continue to block it, Absorb Support can provide assistance. Flagged cases are reviewed individually, and thresholds can be adjusted where appropriate.
