Within Absorb Create, there are three separate Modes you can use to work on a Course - each with its own function:
- Editor Mode: To build up the Course - i.e. add Slides, create Course content, set up Interactions, etc.
- Review Mode: To work collaboratively with other LMS Admins to review the Course Slides and provide feedback through Comments.
- Preview/Playback Mode: To experience the Course as a Learner would - and ensure it behaves as intended before publishing it.
First, to open an existing Create Course, you can click either on the Course name, or on the Edit button (pen icon) of that Course. The Edit button is shown on the right-hand side of the screenshot below:
Editor Mode
This is the default Mode when opening a Create Course, and it is where you build up the Course - i.e. add Slides, create Course content, set up Interactions, etc.
This is what the Editor Mode looks like:
Editor Mode Top Bar
The Top Bar in the Editor Mode has three sections. The left and right-hand side sections will remain the same regardless on the Course Slide selected. The middle section will vary depending on the Slide type of the Slide you are currently viewing.
1. On the left of the Editor Mode header, you will find the following:
- Create Home Button: To exit the Course and go back to the Create Courses list.
-
Course Pages Menu: Where you can add, remove, rename or change the order of Slides or Sections. Each Slide will show a specific icon, identifying the Slide type being used - i.e. blank/regular Slide, External Content Slide, Video Slide, Podcast Slide, Branching Slide, Quiz Slide. You will find more information on this in the Adding Pages article here.
-
Course Settings (Gear Icon): Click this to access the Course Settings. More information can be found in the Settings article here.
- Undo and Redo Buttons: These only work on changes made within the open Slide. As soon as you change the Slide, or close the Course, those buttons can no longer be clicked.
2. On the right of the Editor Mode Header, you will find the following:
- the Help (?) button: Click on this button to open a menu with support options. More details can be found in the Workspaces article here.
- the Preview/Playback Mode button: To look at the course in Playback Mode.
- the Review Mode button: To look at the course in Review Mode.
- the Publish button: To publish the Create Course to the LMS or as a downloadable file. More details about Course creation can be found in the article here.
3. In the middle of the Editor Mode Header:
- There are buttons to add elements to the Slide. Depending on the Slide type selected, you will see more or less buttons.
- For a Regular Slide, you will see icons to add some Text, Button, Shape, Icon, Media or Question.
Editor Mode Right-Hand Side Menu
The right hand-side menu panel shows you actions you can take on the Slide or on the item currently selected. It will therefore have different tabs according to what is selected. Here below is what you see for a Regular Slide when nothing is selected.
Review Mode
This mode can be accessed from the Editor Mode by clicking on the Review button.
The Course Review Mode in Absorb Create is made to work collaboratively to review and give feedback on a Course using Comments. While in this mode, you cannot edit the Course, but you can view the Slides and write Comments - pointing to a specific areas on the Slide if you wish. You can also mention other Admins for them to receive an email notification of your Comment.
A Creator can invite Reviewers to review a specific Course and provide feedback before publishing the Course. What is particular about the Review Mode, is that it is not limited to only Create licence holders. Any Admin in the LMS who has an email address listed in their account can be set as a Reviewer for a course. Note, Admins who do not have a Create licence will only be able to open the Course to review through the link in their invitation email.
This is what the Review Mode looks like:
Review Mode Top Bar
As you can see, the top bar differs from the Editor Mode, as it doesn't have any editing icons in the middle, but it is similar for the rest.
On the left, there is:
- The Create Home button.
- The Course Pages Menu. Note, in Review Mode, it can only be used to jump to any other Slide - but not to make any modifications.
While on the right, you have:
-
The Mobile Preview: This allows you to select different screen formats (phone vertical/horizontal, tablet vertical/horizontal, and laptop) to see how the Course would show for Learners using different screen sizes.
- The Help (?) button.
- The Preview/Playback Mode button.
- The Editor Mode button: to look at the course in Editor Mode.
- The Publish button.
Review Mode Right-Hand Side Menu
The right hand-side menu panel only contains the Review Comments. This has three tabs:
- All: To show all the Comments for the entire Course.
- Page: To show the Comments for this page only.
- Mentions: To show only the Comments where the current User is mentioned with @ function for the entire Course.
Note, this Review Comments section can also be reached from the Editor Mode's right-hand side menu panel for quick access.
You will find more information on how to use the Reviewer Mode, and how to invite an LMS Admin to be a Reviewer of a Create Course in this article here.
Playback/Preview Mode
This Mode can be accessed from the other Modes by clicking on the Play icon.
This Mode is made to experience the Course as a Learner would. This means that you can see and do the same things as a Learner would, with the same limitations. For example, if your Course is set to Follow Sequentially so that the Learner cannot skip Slides, then you will not be able to skip Slides either.
This allows you to test the Course and ensure it behaves as intended before publishing it.
In this Mode, you cannot make any modification to the Slides, nor make any Comments on the Course - meaning that there is no right-hand side menu.
In Playback/Preview Mode, you can only see:
- Course content that will show to the Learner. This only includes content within the green box in the screenshot below.
- The Admin bar/menu at the top - which states "You are currently in Preview mode".
This is what the Preview/Playback Mode looks like:
The Preview/Playback Mode Admin bar/menu is concise:
- On the left: the Return button to go back to the Editor Mode or the Review Mode - depending on where you started from.
- On the right: the Mobile Preview, and the Help button.
