You can connect Absorb Aura to Claude or ChatGPT so you can ask about your learning in plain language, without opening the LMS. Ask what you are enrolled in, what is due, or what courses are worth taking next, and your assistant answers using Absorb Aura, drawing on live data from your Absorb Portal through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Setup has two parts. An IT Administrator adds Absorb Aura to your organization's Claude or ChatGPT workspace once. Each User then signs in with their own Absorb account, which takes less than a minute. The connection is available for all Absorb Portals and becomes active once your IT Administrator adds the connector.

Requirements

Confirm the following before you begin. Administrator rights are only needed for the one-time connector setup; individual Users do not need them.

What You Can Ask Absorb Aura

Once connected, you can ask your assistant about your Absorb Aura data. What you can ask depends on your role: Learners reach the Aura Learner Agent, while Admins reach Aura Admin Assist, and each capability draws on your existing Absorb Aura permissions.

Aura Learner Agent

These capabilities are available to Learners through the Aura Learner Agent.

Aura Admin Assist

These capabilities are available to Admins through Aura Admin Assist.

Using Absorb Aura through Claude or ChatGPT is free and does not consume Aura credits. For more information on the credits system and which in-LMS Aura features do use credits, see the Aura Credits System Overview article.

Limitations

The Absorb Aura connection is designed for asking questions and receiving answers. Keep the following limitations in mind:

• The connection is read and answer only. No actions are taken in the LMS through MCP.
• Courses cannot be created through MCP.
• An Absorb account is required to use the connection.
• Admin reporting coverage matches the current data querying coverage of Aura Admin Assist.

Connect Absorb Aura to Claude

Connecting Absorb Aura to Claude takes two steps: an Administrator adds Absorb Aura as a connector, and each User then connects their own account.

Add Absorb Aura as a Connector

On Claude Team and Enterprise plans, an organization Owner adds Absorb Aura once so it appears for everyone. On Free, Pro, and Max plans, each person completes this step individually.

1. In Claude, click Settings.
2. Click Connectors under Organization Settings. On an individual plan, click Connectors under Settings instead.
3. Click Add, then click Custom. If Claude asks for a connector type, select Web.
4. Enter a name your team will recognize, such as "Absorb," along with your Portal address: https://yourcompany.myabsorb.com/mcp
5. Click Add. Absorb now appears for everyone in your organization.

Connect Your Account

Once Absorb Aura has been added, each User connects their own account.

1. Click Settings, then click Connectors, and locate Absorb (or the name given when the connector was added).
2. Click Connect. Your Absorb sign-in page opens.
3. Sign in as you normally would and approve the access request.

Use Aura in a Conversation in Claude

After your account is connected, you can start asking questions in any new chat.

1. Start a new chat.
2. Ask your question.
3. The first time Absorb Aura is used, Claude asks your permission. Review the request and click Allow.

Connect Absorb Aura to ChatGPT

ChatGPT requires Developer Mode before a custom connection can be created. Depending on your plan and when your workspace was last updated, this area of settings may be labeled Apps, Plugins, or Connectors.

Turn On Developer Mode (Administrator)

The ChatGPT Administrator turns on Developer Mode once to set up a custom connection. In ChatGPT, follow these steps to enable Developer Mode:

1. Enable Developer Mode for yourself under Settings > Plugins > Developer Mode. Depending on the version of ChatGPT, Plugins may be labeled Apps or Connectors.

Add Absorb Aura as a Connector (Administrator)

With Developer Mode on, the Administrator adds Absorb Aura and publishes it to the workspace.

1. From Settings, click Plugins, then click the + button to add a new plugin.
2. Enter a name your team will recognize, such as "Absorb," a short description, and your Portal address: https://yourcompany.myabsorb.com/mcp
3. For authentication, select OAuth.
4. Click Scan Tools. ChatGPT contacts Absorb and lists what it can do. Sign in when prompted.
5. Under Advanced OAuth Settings, select Dynamic Client Registration as the registration method, and keep the other default values.
6. Confirm the acknowledgement and click Create. Absorb is saved as a draft, visible only to you.
7. Click Workspace Settings, then click Plugins. Search for "Absorb" (or the name given above), and click Publish.

On Enterprise and Edu plans, you can also open the published app to limit which tools are available, choose which groups can see it, and install it for everyone rather than leaving it self-service.

Connect and Use Absorb Aura in ChatGPT

Once the connector is published, each User connects their own account.

1. Click Settings, then click Apps, and locate Absorb (or the name given when the connector was added).
2. Click Connect and sign in with your Absorb account.
3. Start a new chat and ask your question.
4. Confirm the connection prompt the first time you use it.

Example Questions

Ask in plain language, the way you would ask a colleague. You do not need special commands. If your assistant answers from general knowledge instead of your Portal, name Absorb in your question.

• What mandatory courses do I need to complete?
• Do I have anything overdue?

Finding New Courses

• Find courses on workplace safety that are available to me.
• What courses can I take to learn Python?

Course Content and Shared Documents

• What are the rules for handling customer records?

Reporting on Your Team and Organization (Admin Access Only)

• Who has not completed the June security training?
• What is the average rating for the Leadership course?

Troubleshooting

If you run into an issue connecting or using Absorb Aura in Claude or ChatGPT, review the common causes and fixes below.

Data and Privacy

Connecting Absorb Aura to your AI assistant does not change how your data is protected. The following points explain what to expect.

• You sign in to Absorb directly. Your assistant never receives your Absorb password.
• Requests are made as you, so your existing Absorb roles and permissions apply to every answer.
• You can disconnect at any time from the connectors or apps area of your settings. Removing your Absorb account removes access immediately.
